Isn’t It Interesting - A Composition On My Life Right Now.

-	My ever so sweet child will not stop crying. He doesn’t want to play, to read, to sleep, to eat, or to anything but be held by me, and even then it’s iffy. I’ve given him some motrin and I hope that will help. I don’t know what is wrong. I don’t know if he’s coming down from two weeks of grandparents, or if he’s transitioning to a one nap day, or if he’s in pain, or what. He did this yesterday too, and then promptly took a 3 hour nap. I feel bad for just letting him cry and fit it out, but there is nothing that I do that makes him remotely happy.

-	We need to move. I love my dear little house, it’s been so good to us. And most of the time our neighbors aren’t ~that~ bad... but this morning took the cake. One of our neighbors “mechanic guy” has gals that live with him almost on a rotating basis. Or so it seems. Today his current live in came over to borrow our phone. I have no trouble lending my phone to those who need it, but she was weird. And kinda creepy. I think she may have been a little loosey goosey (if you know what I mean). She called somebody and starting this high pitched whining “I’m alone, come here” over and over and over again. I’m glad I didn’t let her in. Then she called four other people. I would have taken the phone away but she was uber quick about redialing and she was in the middle of the yard. Yeah, won’t be opening the door to her again. (and all this, of course, taking place while Nathan is wailing).

-	I bought lipstick the other day. Yes, me, the woman who never wears make up. It’s a really light neutral pink shimmery stuff. It’s amazing what a nice lipstick can do for your self image. This will sound weird, especially coming from me, but I feel more “with it” when I wear it. hahaha. You can’t hardly tell I have anything on except my lips are a bit shinier.

-	Same goes with a nice fitting shirt.

-	Anybody want to come bear the wail and keep me sane? Really, I just need company. :)

-	Sam’s parents are coming into town this weekend! They’re going to be away all day Saturday, but we’re looking forward to seeing them! Plus, Nathan always loves Grandpa and Grandma!

- I think I’m going to need a Tylenol PM after today.

Sad.

We had such a great time, and hope they decide to make these trailer trips regularly. Or at least to Abilene regularly.

It was nice to see both my mom and my dad (especially my dad) relaxed and just going with the flow. I think he’s really taking this retirement thing to heart, which is nice. There were only a couple of occasions that he had the aura of deep concern/thought. It used to be that he had that all the time, he wouldn’t (I don’t think) allow himself to fully let go and relax. He even took naps in the afternoon!

Nathan had a ball hanging out with Grandpa and Grandma, and he loved exploring their trailer. While they were here he said the word MILK (while pointing at milk) for the first time, and he learned to “tickle tickle” the bottoms of your feet while saying ...tickle tickle. It is just the cutest thing.

I’ll leave you with some pictures, because they’re cute, and I want some tea.

Thanks Mom and Dad for coming down! Looking forward to the next time!

PICTURES:

Nathan has the most amazing blue eyes. Mom captured them perfectly in this picture.

Sitting eating breakfast with Grandpa in the trailer. - In Grandpa’s truck going to Walmart I think. He liked the rumble of the diesel.

Posing for Grandma. He looks like he’s about ready to give you a kiss.

Relaxing with Grandpa. He would sit like that for a good hour. Hands behind the head, feet crossed. Ahhh, so comfy.

Hard at work pushing the wagon. Isn’t that just the cutest Grandpa/Grandson picture?

Taking a walk around the block. If you can enlarge this picture you can see Nathan’s big ole smile.

So serious. Pushing the wagon is serious business!

Us three. We like how I blend in with the blinds behind.

Nathan took this picture with Grandma’s camera. It is blurry a bit, but cute!

Cosas de la diversion Numero Uno:
My parents are in town! Now that they’ve both officially retired they’re on this extended camping trip tour. We were excited to have them and Nathan was thrilled to play with them. I think Grandpa and Grandma are the funnest things EVER. I’ve never seen Nathan laugh so hard then he does at Grandpa, nor cuddle so much with people other then Sam and I. They play and play and play. It’s really cute to see. Dad is just a big toddler himself I think. He, at least, has this crazy ability to attract ANY kid near him. Babies, Toddlers and Little Kids just adore my father. I’m not sure if it’s all the funny noises he makes, or the funny faces, or the combo, but it certainly has Nathan rolling.

Cosas de la diversion Numero Dos:
I bought Nathan another stroller today. It was just an umbrella stroller, as he is now too wide for his Chicco big heafty stroller. It’s rather cute. It’s orange with black stripes like...TIGGER! It also has a canopy that you can put down that has Tiggers ears on it. Nathan seems to enjoy it.

Cosas de la diversion Numero Tres:
Sam and I are going on a DATE! After at least 15 months of going nowhere without our son, we’re finally doing it. ACK! I’m nervous. Not about being alone with my husband, but about leaving my child. We did leave Nathan all day with my sister when Sam had surgery... but that was for a specific reason, not a choice. This time we’re leaving him by choice to go do something purposely without him. Kinda scary. ;) We don’t know what we’ll do, and it won’t be an evening date, just an afternoon date... but I’m looking forward to it.

Cosas de la diversion Numero Cuatro:
I don’t know about you, but I’ve enjoyed the past 15 days of Olympic watching. The Winter Olympics are my favorite, and I could have watched all the events had I been able to. That includes nordic combine and curling and random events like that. I’m sad that they’ll be gone for another four years (two if you count the summer ones), but I think I’ll live. I know Sam is glad they’re over, it means less of me wanting command of the tv, and more of him being able to play Bioshock 2 (evil mistress).

Forgive my terrible Spanish. I took “2 years of spanish” in high school but learned very little. Plus, it’s late and I’m tired and I bable fished this sucker, and we all know how reliable that is...
My Blog, My Rules eh? I’m feeling the need for a bit of a gripe fest about my insane neighbors, so feel free to stop reading right now, or go ahead and feel free to laugh at me. I know I’m being ridiculous.

*My neighbors are having a party. A big beer drinking, chain smoking, mesquite fireplace party. Normally I can tune them out, but tonight they have the radio on LOUD. Not just a little loud to where I can hear the thumpa thumpa of the beat, but loud to the point where I can understand lyrics. I’m not sure why they’re playing the radio either. Why not CD’s? Maybe they’re waiting for the lotto numbers. Not that they’d be sober enough to remember if they won or not. The music just went from a rockabilly song to Bryan Adams. Par-tay. Nothing says rock out like Bryan Adams. And now it’s some death metal. It kinda sounds like Megadeath.

WHAT THE HECK! Their kids just threw something and HIT MY HOUSE! At 9:07 at night!

*My other neighbor. Oh my other neighbor. He apparently bought the should-be-burned-down house on the corner and is renovating it so he can move in. But this guy apparently can’t keep normal hours. I don’t think he holds a normal job because he’s home 99% of the time. During the day he has people in and out of his house, and then around 3 he starts to work on the other house and that lasts until 3 am. Seriously. Today, right at Nathan’s naptime, he decided to saw. Not a back and forth hand saw, but a chain saw. WHICH he apparently didn’t know how to work. Instead of one long continuous RAWR of the chain saw, it was a Rawr Rawr raw raw raw raw raw Rawr for TWO hours. TWO hours of me wanting to go saw the guy in half with his own chain saw.

There are times when both my neighbors can been very nice and normal. But man, there are times when they’re so absurd that you just want to shout out how dumb they are.

PUT YOUR BADLY BEHAVED KIDS TO BED AT A DECENT HOUR! DON’T EVER CHAIN SAW AGAIN! IF THESE LITTLE SNOTS STEP ON MY PORCH WITH MUDDY FEET AGAIN I’M GOING TO BEAT THEM! STOP ASKING ME IF I WANT YOU TO DO OUR HOME REPAIRS! MILLER LITE IS NOT A SUITABLE LIQUID TO DRINK EVER, LET ALONE AT 10 AM! MY NAME IS ARLY NOT ARLEN! MY CHILD WILL NEVER PLAY WITH YOUR KIDS FOR FEAR OF HIM LEARNING TERRIBLE HABITS! IF YOUR KID DOESN’T RESPOND TO YOU SCREAMING AT HIM, GO GET HIM OFF THE TRAMPOLINE AND PUNISH HIM INSTEAD OF SCREAMING MORE! TRUMPETS ARE NOT A MORNING INSTRUMENT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY! CUTTING YOUR DIRT WITH A LAWN MOWER ISN’T GOING TO MAKE YOUR PROPERTY LOOK ANY BETTER! STOP THROWING THINGS INTO MY DOG KENNEL!

There, I’m done. For now. Whew. I feel better.

<Insert some type of relieved proclamation here>

It’s been quite the last six days. Technically, it’s been quite the last four days, but six makes it seem that much more dramatic. Haha.

Sam had his gallbladder removed on Friday.

On Thursday Rob and Abby came into town, so that they could hang out with the buddy boy while Sam and I were at the hospital. We thought it’d be prudent to allow Nathan time to adjust to them.

Both Sam and I were quite nervous to leave Nathan, especially since we had to be at the hospital before he would wake up. This is the first time we’ve really left him with anybody. (I don’t count the ER visit when Sam was burned. Nathan was already asleep, and we were back before he ever woke up.) We debated almost endlessly what to do. Should we wake him up before we go, take him with us, just leave, etc. In the end, Nathan woke up in time for him to nurse before we left. It was unusual for him to wake so early, but he did, and it was helpful.

Sam and I had to be at the hospital by 5:15 am on Friday, but because it had snowed the previous day, and then we had a freeze, we left the house early, and got to the hospital by 4:45.

Sam was taken back to surgery around 6:30 and they called to say they had started around 7:30. An hour later, the doctor called and said everything went fine that I should get to see my husband in about 30 minutes. His actual surgery only lasted an hour. What a blessing.

However. Yes, of course, there had to be a however. However, an hour later the recovery nurse called me and said that she was keeping him in the first post-op recovery for at least another half an hour. I finally got to go back and see Sam around 10. He had troubles coming out of the anesthesia, apparently they had to give him some oxygen. His recovery was only supposed to take a couple hours before we got to go home. However... It was much more then a couple hours before we actually did. Sam ended up not really coming out of it until around 1, when we talked for about 10 minutes, then he was back asleep. He dozed in an out the rest of the day, inserted with several sick bucket times. The poor guy. We think they gave him a bit too much medicine and it just made him so sick.
We finally got to go home around 6, and that was only because Sam was done with the hospital. I’m sure they would have kept us longer had he not said anything.
